I had the pleasure of interviewing Danielle Parhizkaran, a sports photographer for the Boston Globe since October of 2023 Prior to working for the Globe, Danielle worked for North Jersey New and USA Today Sports for nine years.

Danielle is from New Jersey. In high school, she started taking pictures for the new paper, and that’s when she fell in love with sports photography. She continued this through college. Danielle said, “ I work better under pressure, and when you're at a game taking pictures, there's just something about it that gives you a rush of energy.”

Danielle takes pictures for the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots on a daily basis. She has also had the opportunity to shoot multiple US openings, the Olympics, US men’s soccer in the World Cup, and so many more amazing thing. Danielle’s favorite event is the Tokyo Summer Olympics. She was able to photograph Sunisa Lee and Simone Biles. She could also photograph skateboarding in the Olympics for the first time.

Danielle is happy that this field is getting more females in it and believes it is helping it become less of a sexist work environment. She said, “It is still a boys club”. Danielle mentioned that security would check her credentials multiple times or not even check other male coworkers' credentials. But she hopes more young women decide to go into sports photography to make it more of an equal space.
Her advice to young female sports photographers is to get out there. Don’t be afraid to go up and take a picture. To network, reach out to other sports photographers. They will help and give advice.
